Neil Diamond melting hearts in Townsville
Superstar rock music legend Neil Diamond will commence his 50th Anniversary World Tour in Townsville in 2018, melting the hearts of thousands of Australian fans across North Queensland.
Townsville’s 1300SMILES Stadium will host the first of three Neil Diamond concerts in Queensland on March 20 next year.

Fans of the legendary singer are expected to flock to Townsville to catch a glimpse of the rocker who is famous for his titles such as Cherry Cherry, Holly Holy, Cracklin’ Rosie, Song Sung Blue, You Don’t Bring Me Flowers, Solitary Man, Sweet Caroline, Love on the Rocks and Desiree and Shilo.
Neil Diamond’s promoter Paul Dainty said, “Neil Diamond is one of the world’s greatest live performers and I am honoured to be working with him on this 50th Year Anniversary Tour and bringing him to cities and venues he has never played.”
“To see him perform the songs that have been the soundtracks of our lives will be an incredible live concert experience.
“Neil is currently touring the world and his fans and critics have been raving about this brand-new show.”
Townsville Enterprise and Stadiums Queensland are expected to announce the tour today.
Townsville Enterprise tourism and events director Bridget Woods said the promoter “Paul Dainty is an incredibly successful promoter who has instilled his trust in Townsville to deliver on this event.”
Mr. Dainty said to the Washington Times that “Neil Diamond’s voice remains smooth like silk, and as flawlessly on-pitch as he was a half-century ago when the world of rock was yet young.”
“Over the last 50 years, Diamond’s proved to be an expert at dreaming up turns of phrase, and pairing them with endearing melodies.”
Commenting to the Express and Star UK, Mr. Dainty said, “Neil Diamond remains a global superstar with more stage presence and talent than many acts – modern or old – could ever hope to muster.”
Stadiums Queensland who operates 1300SMILES stadium has announced on their website that “Townsville Enterprise and Stadiums Queensland are proud to announce that Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Member, Grammy Award-winning music icon, Neil Diamond, will perform in Townsville in 2018.
1300SMILES stadium is the home of the North Queensland Cowboys with a capacity of 25,000 seats. This venue has hosted many star-studded artists in the past such as Elton John, Keith Urban and Cold Chisel to sell out audiences.
Neil Diamond will perform in Australia on the following dates and at these venues:
- Townsville – Tuesday 20 March at 1300 Smiles Stadium
- Sunshine Coast – Thursday 22 March at Sunshine Coast Stadium
- Brisbane – Saturday 24 March at Brisbane Entertainment Centre
- Sydney – Tuesday 27 March at Qudos Bank Arena
- Victoria – Saturday 31 March at Sutton Grange Winery
- Melbourne – Tuesday 3 April at Rod Laver Arena
- Hunter Valley – Saturday 7 April at Roche Estate
- Adelaide – Wednesday 11 April at Botanic Park
- Perth – Saturday 14 April at Sandalford Estate, Swan Valley
Tickets go on sale at 2pm on Thursday 16 November to the general public through Ticketek.
